Dear Patterson Family,

Some sessions leave me thinking about beautiful light or a breathtaking location. Others leave me thinking about the people long after I've packed my camera away.

Yours was the latter.

As I drove home that evening, I realized I wasn't replaying poses or photographs in my mind. I kept thinking about the feeling of being around your family. There was such an openness among all of you. The kind that allows people to laugh freely, hug often, tease each other lovingly, and simply enjoy being together without reservation. It was contagious, and it was something truly special to witness.

Spending an evening with your family reminded me that the greatest gift isn't perfection. It's belonging.

This gallery celebrates so much more than a few birthdays and a graduation. It holds a season where an entire family gathered under one roof. It marks milestones, new chapters, and decades of memories already shared, while quietly making room for many more still to come.

One of the things I love most about photography is that it allows us to revisit moments that would otherwise continue drifting further into the past. Years from now, I hope these photographs become more than images. I hope they're a doorway back to this weekend. Back to the laughter echoing around the cabin, the cousins running together, the conversations that carried on a little longer than expected, and the simple joy of having everyone under one roof.

So often, the moments that shape us don't announce themselves while we're living them. They feel ordinary. They're just another family vacation, another summer evening, another gathering around the people we've always loved.

Then one day, they become priceless.

Thank you for welcoming me into your family for an evening and for trusting me to preserve a small piece of your story. It was an honor to witness it, and I hope these photographs always remind you just how fortunate you are to have one another.
